Best Friends Animal Sanctuary seeking help with resources as the non-profit continue to care for animals in Fentress County.
President Sharon Cravens said the County Commission recently approved $400 a month to help with electric bills. She said while they are grateful for the aid, it’s not enough.
“I know they have their budget they have to go by and they said they’ll reevaluate their budget when it comes time so we’ll see if we can get more funding then,” Cravens said. “But you know it helps every penny helps.”
Cravens said they are in need of funds to help with vaccines and spaying and neutering, food, and laundry soap. She said they currently have 38 animals in their care, with some 32 young animals placed in foster homes.
Cravens said Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has been established in Fentress County for 20 years. She said it originally operated from the homes of volunteers but quickly evolved into a larger operation.
“I think it’s important to step forward and do what we can to help the animals,” Cravens said. “I know there are other programs for things like the food bank and that’s very important too. I think we need to think of the animals as well and I want my grandkids to have an example of the proper care of animals. You don’t just let them run loose and uncared for, you do your best to give them care.”
