Cookeville Putnam Chamber Seeing Success In Recruiting Sport Tournaments

Cookeville Putnam County Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Amy New said efforts to recruit sporting events to Putnam County are stronger than ever.

New said over a dozen tournaments have been secured this calendar with several others in the future.

“We think we have kind of figured it out after talking with tournament directors,” New said. “They are talking about the cost for hotels in our Nashville and Knoxville areas are $200 and up. They feel like family and teams cannot pay for that, so we are welcoming them to Cookeville.”

New said another recruiting tool the chamber is using is paying for hotels for tournament directors and referees. New said for example, if a tournament brings in over 50 teams, the chamber will provide four rooms for the organizers.

New said the chamber has been successful in bringing baseball, softball and soccer tournaments to the county.
