Jackson County Jail Hoping For New Surveillance Equipment

Jackson County in the process of updating its surveillance software at the jail.

County Mayor Randy Heady said the surveillance technology will come from the same grant used to upgrade the HVAC system.

“We started having problems probably four or five years in,” Heady said. “We’ve been having a lot of issues the past two years with trying to get it up and running, it fails. And about 18 months ago, I found out that they no longer support that system it’s out of date.”

Heady said the surveillance also works remotely, so administrators can watch the cameras from home.

Heady said they will also use the funds to purchase laptops and computers for employees. He said they want to be able to have the resource to work from home and not get anyone sick.

Heady said once they check the bid meets the necessary specs, it will be sent to the county commission for approval.
