Vol State Hosting Front Desk Personnel Safety Training

Vol State Cookeville set to hold a safety training for front desk personnel on Wednesday, December 14th and Thursday, December 15th.

Vol State Assistant Police Chief Tim Anschuetz said the training is not necessarily geared toward active shooter emergencies, but de-escalation.

“It allows our front desk personnel to recognize aggressive behavior, possibly before it starts to recognize anxiety in someone,” Anschuetz said. “And also to give them some tools for how to handle somebody that is progressively getting angrier and angrier.”

Anschuetz said the course will cover how to present oneself with authority and how to spot and correct risks. He said they will also cover why it’s important to trust intuition when it comes to dealing with people at the front desk and reception area.

Anschuetz said they have held trainings at other campuses before and seen much success. He said they originally were going to hold the training for Vol State’s own front desk employees. Anschuetz said then they realized it could benefit a variety of industries and businesses.

“We thought why not open this up to the general public to some people at banks or schools that could use this type of training,” Anschuetz said.

The training will begin at 10 a.m. If interested, Anschuetz said to contact Officer Medlin at the Vol State Cookeville Campus at 931-520-4616.
