McMinnville Police Focusing Patrols On Speeding Over Holiday Season

McMinnville Police increasing patrols in areas that experience a high number of vehicle accidents over the holiday season.

Patrol Officer Mark Mara said a recent double casualty wreck just outside the city limits caused the department’s emphasis on safe driving.

“Most of the crashes that we are having directly involves speed, and because of that we’re having more serious crashes,” Mara said. “Another thing we are looking at is people running red lights and stop signs.”

Mara said extra patrols will be in the areas of the State Route 70 Bypass, Nashville Highway and North Chancery Street. Mara said the enforcement will last until January 1st.

“We recommend that everyone focuses on their driving getting to their destination safely,” Mara said. “So try not to have all those distractions like hands free devices.”

Mara said message signs are placed in the areas so drivers know about the extra patrols. Mara said the Warren County Sheriff’s office also participating in the initiative.

Mara said educating drivers on the dangers of speeding can save lives.
