Ditty Road Hopefully To Reopen In Next Few Weeks

Paving work on Baxter’s Ditty Road started Thursday night.

The road has been closed since June 20th while utilities were extended to Portabello. City Engineer Tom Bennett said since the extension is complete crews can repave the road and get it closer to reopening.

“Asphalt operations in the freezing temperatures and I know we’ve got some cold weather coming,” Bennett said. “So Rogers Group is really taking the initiative to try to get that road paved and back in operation after all this construction we’ve been doing for the last several months.”

Pending the weather, Bennett said the road could open back up anywhere between the next two days or the next few weeks.

Baxter City Council approved reducing the speed limit on Ditty Road from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour. Bennett said this speed limit reduction will help make the road safer once it reopens and experiences an increase in traffic once again.

“Ditty Road has been closed for a long time for construction so we’re excited to see that paving is going, utilities are completed so we’re hopeful the city will be able to open that back up soon,” Bennett said. “I know the community will be glad to hear that. There’s a lot of people that use that road to cut through to other parts of the county.”
