Warren Animal Shelter Increasing Community Outreach Through Open House

The Warren County Animal Shelter hosting a Christmas open House Saturday as it tries to grow community outreach efforts.

Director Sherri Bradley said you can stop by at noon to learn more about pet safety and shelter operations.

“Our goal is to try and educate the community about what we do,” Bradley said. “We’re going to have a vaccine clinic and some microchips. We’ll also have some food, and if people want to look around and see if they need a friend for the holidays they can adopt.”

Bradley said through the outreach, the shelter wants to increase adoption rates and get more animals fixed. Bradley said capacity has been an ongoing issue for a few years.

‘We’re trying to educate the public, and hopefully at some point, we’ll try to incorporate education for schools and bring in dogs and teach how to treat them,” Bradley said. “Just trying to educate from the ground up.”

Bradley said shelter workers will also focus on leash laws. Bradley said as a rural county, many pet owners are unaware of the guidelines.

The event starts at noon and will last until 3:00 p.m. at the Warren County Animal Shelter.
