Late Night Smithville Shopping Event For Last Minute Gifts

A shopping event made for procrastinators kicks off Thursday night as several Smithville merchants extend their hours.

Male Room Brotique Co-Owner Tony Luna organized the new event. Luna said each year, he sees last second shoppers stressing to find the perfect gift.

“I’ve got a friend of mine named Dave who is notoriously a bad gift giver,” Luna said. “Usually Christmas Eve night, he’ll run and get his wife something because he forgot. Umbrellas are just not a good gift, so us merchants in downtown Smithville came up with the idea.”

Luna said stores lining the square will remain open until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Luna said business owners downtown have bought in to the idea. Luna said even some fun festivities such as mule rides are scheduled.

“We’ve got a great group of people downtown,” Luna said. “In the last three to five years if you haven’t been to downtown Smithville, you are really missing out. All the shops are full again. All the business owners are working together with the same goal in mind.”

“Don’t be a Dave,” Luna said. “Come to the procrastinators event in downtown Smithville.”
