Crossville Council Tables Final Reading On Village Inn Purchase

The Crossville City Council tabled the third reading to purchase the Village Inn Wednesday.

Mayor RJ Crawford said the city’s attorney needs to review a report from residents before moving forward. The documents contain tenant names which need to be removed in case of a public records request.

While the final purchase has been delayed, City Manager Greg Wood addressed some concerns about where existing residents would live. Wood said the Homeless Advocacy for Rural Tennessee has been involved with transitioning tenants.

“What I am encouraged by is really that a lot of these people have not known where to turn for help,” Wood said. “This might be their first opportunity for somebody to advocate for them. There’s some positive things coming out of it.”

Crawford said he encouraged the council to read the report to see the comments made by tenants. A date was not set to finalize the third reading of the resolution. Some $450,000 would be spent to purchase the building.
