Baxter Looking To Purchase Weather Station For City

City of Baxter trying to purchase its own weather station for the city.

Fire Chief Matthew White said the station will allow the city to track more direct and up-to-date information when it comes to severe weather.

“Plans are that the Putnam County EMA will purchase several of these and put them in different locations also,” White said. “We’re just far west in the county and we want to be some of the first off  so we can give notice to our citizens that this is happening.”

White said the stations can give live updates, storm warnings, and lightning detection. He said pending approval from the provider, the plan is to install the weather system on the water tower.

White said the systems typically run for several thousand dollars. He said they will find a firmer price once bids for the system come in.
