UC Schools Seeing Positive Absentee Numbers Despite Concerns About Illness Post-Holiday

Despite concerns from health officials expecting an increase in sickness following the winter break, Upper Cumberland school systems are seeing positive return rates.

Putnam County Schools Attendance Supervisor Chris Pierce said they are seeing about a five percent absent rate. He said this rate is better than the actual start of the school year.

Clay County Schools are seeing similar trends. Attendance Supervisor Derick Upchurch said their school system is actually showing lower absenteeism than before the break began. Both White County Schools and Jackson County Schools officials are reporting low absenteeism numbers.
