Clay County High Schooler Places First In State Essay Contest


A Clay County High School student won her division in the state’s Civics Essay Contest.

Bridget Cherry placed first in the 9th through 12th-grade group, winning a $500 scholarship. Cherry was one of 3,841 students who entered the contest.

The Secretary of State’s office launched the Civics Essay Contest in 2016. This year’s theme was “Why Your Vote Matters.” Previous essay themes included voting, citizenship, leadership and civic duty.
