Sparta has started the process to fill its vacant financial director position.
The Board of Aldermen approved opening the application portal after Financial Director Tonya Tindle was hired as city administrator. Tindle said four candidates have already applied.
“It’s very important, because as small as Sparta is, it’s usually one person doing that job,” Tindle said. “There’s not a lot of people in the city that actually have the expertise to back you up to see if you are doing it right. So, you have to stay in contact with the state and your auditor.”
Tindle said the director will be responsible for daily cash reports, managing city investments and overseeing payroll. Tindle said the city is looking for applicants with an accounting degree with five or more years of experience.
“It’s also making sure the monthly financials are done, deadlines for sales tax reporting and making sure its done monthly to report to the Board of Aldermen,” Tindle said.
Tindle said the city would like to see a hire happen over the next three months. Tindle said the application portal will remain open until the position is filled. You can find the job’s description by visiting the city’s website.
