Putnam EMA Provides Option For Advanced Warning With Emergency Alerts

Putnam County Emergency Management Agency launching a new feature in its emergency alert system.

Director Tyler Smith said individuals who have signed up for the alert system can now opt-in to get advanced warnings. He said this will help people be better informed and better prepared in the face of severe weather warnings.

“We figured that a lot of people want to know in advance several days out when there’s severe weather and others don’t they just want the alerts,” Smith said. “So we figured we’d give them an option to where they can go in and have that selection to where they can get a text or an email for several days ahead knowing what’s to come.”

Smith said they have seen many people choose to opt-in to the advanced warnings. He said the storm prediction center has already provided updated changes to the weather for Thursday that are communicated through the alert system.

The new list will send National Weather Service predictions and risk categories, like those posted on social media, delivered right to you. Smith said if you are interested in receiving the advanced warnings, you can sign up on the county’s emergency alert website and choose the types and methods of alert you prefer.
