Right-Of-Way Acquisition Slow-Moving For Baxter’s New Ditty Road

Work on Baxter’s New Ditty Road project moving slower than originally anticipated, the process now delayed by about five months.

Mayor John Martin said that T-DOT had been struggling with the right-of-way acquisition portion of the process to move forward to the next step. He said the acquisition of property goes Baxter Road across where the new Ditty Road will be.

“It’s where the road goes through their property, the state buys that from them unless they elect to donate the property, that’s kind of the delay right now,” Martin said. “And it’s crucial, I mean it’s required in order to run the road. But it usually works out.”

Martin said due to delays, T-DOT will not be able to let the project out in March as originally expected. He said they now hope to do so in August of this year.

Martin said in the meantime, Old Ditty Road has been open for about three weeks now. He said that has greatly helped with traffic flow as work continues at Portabello and Baxter’s new pump station.
