White Co. To Use CDBG Application Funds For New Ambulance

White County is looking to add a new ambulance for emergency services with a Community Development Block Grant application.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said with long wait times due to supply chain issues, the county decided to plan ahead and apply for a new ambulance before the need became critical.

“It’ll be a good thing,” Robinson said. “We have to purchase all kinds of emergency vehicles, and an ambulance is just about yearly. But it will be a great benefit to the community to get one under a grant.”

Robinson said depending on pricing estimates, they are exploring the possibility to purchase two ambulances or just one that is fully equipped. He said they still have to run the numbers on that idea and figure out which is the more cost-effective use of all of the grant dollars.

Robinson said they have applied for a maximum of $420,000. He said his next step is to reach out to vendors and investigate what the latest price and lead time trends are for purchasing ambulances.

We’re hoping that we’re going to be able to find something more quickly than the current lead times but you know it’s one of those things a lot places are looking for right now,” Johnson said. “We’re just grateful to be able to use this money to get something we need.”
