Sparta To Move Forward With Civic Center Roof Repairs

City of Sparta moving forward with a roof repair project at the Civic Center.

Public Works Director Dillard Quick said the roof had been having issues with holes from fallen branches and sticks. He said up until now, they had just been patching the holes.

“This roof is actually about 22 or 23 years old, the warranty is usually 20 years on a rubber roof like that so we’ve actually gotten more life out of it than we thought,” Quick said. “But it’s just time to go ahead and put a new roof on the building.

Quick said the Board of Aldermen also approved moving forward with new HVAC units in part with this project. He said the current units are 20 years old.

Quick said both the roof and the HVAC project were something the city had planned for during last budget season. He said this project should not have an effect on visitors to the center.

“So this was something all of us were counting on for this year,” Quick said.
