Development Trends Likely To Continue In Western Putnam County

Development in Putnam County likely to continue in the western part of the county.

That’s according to Planning Director Kevin Rush. Rush said there is more land available in the area and it is closer to cities like Nashville and Lebanon.

“There are some large tracts out there that are still available, so I think that’s where we’re going to see most of the development heading that direction,” Rush said. “Because the pull of Nashville, people moving, don’t like Nashville, then they decide they want to be somewhere else, they come here. And they want to be close to Nashville where it’s not too far to drive.”

Rush said there is a chance for different types of development in other parts of the county. He said once Monterey’s sewer plant upgrades are completed, that opens the possibility for more commercial development.

Rush said as far as residential development, he thinks there will be a lot of infield development in the cities of Cookeville, Algood, and Baxter.
