Warren Schools Salary Study Nearing End

Warren County Schools nearing the end of its faculty and staff salary study.

Director of Schools Grant Swallows said the district has always wanted to keep up with trends for employee pay and help during times of inflation and rising costs. He said they have taken time comparing Warren County salaries to districts around the Upper Cumberland.

“What we’ve learned is that it’s never an exact science when it comes to this and when you have almost 1,00 employees all with different degrees and all with different experiences there’s no easy way to do this,” Swallows said. “But we do know that in order to be competitive, in order to keep people in this profession, we’re going to have to pay them better.”

Swallows said many school districts are taking the time to look at salaries right now because of the belief that the new school funding formula will invest more money into education. He said many districts are looking to invest that money into salaries to make wages more competitive.

Swallows said he has compiled several different options for cleaning up the salary schedule and proposals for salaries themselves. He said the next step will be to take it to the school board and have conversations about how to move forward.
