Overton County Sheriff’s Department will retire narcotics K-9 Uno after approval from the County Commission.
Sheriff John Garrett said the problem was not due to age, but issues with heartworms. He said Uno’s heartworms led to the dog having a lapse in certification because he was not able to do physical activity.
Garrett said because the dog is 11 years old and would cost up to $6,000 to recertify, the department thought it best to retire the dog. Garret said with Uno’s retirement, he would like to explore the possibility to get a new dog.
Uno will be placed into the care of his handler, Terry Frady. Frady will assume all responsibilities for the dog.
