PCFD Responds To Residence Fire On Water Plant Road Thursday

A residence, a camper, and other vehicles deemed a total loss after a fire on Water Plant Road in the Baxter area Thursday.

Putnam County Fire Chief Tom Brown said when crews arrived on the scene around 1:30 the residence was well-involved. He said neighbors had reported hearing explosions to the fire department, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“He was asleep so he just discovered the fire he didn’t really know where the fire was in the home so he barely escaped,” Brown said.  “He was transferred to the ER for minor burns and some smoke inhalation.”

Brown said that the individual is currently in stable condition. Brown said he was able to escape the house out a secondary entrance of his bedroom.

Brown said crews were on the scene for about four hours to put out the residence and smaller surrounding fires that had resulted in embers getting into the nearby wooded area. Brown said the Department of Forestry was also on the scene to provide aid.
