Cookeville Preparing To Survey Residents For 2030 Plan Update

The Cookeville Planning Department will soon survey residents about growth, housing, transportation and other issues surrounding the city’s future.

Community Development Director Jon Ward said the feedback helps shape any needed changes to the Cookeville 2030 Plan.

“It’ll ask a variety of different questions about why you live in Cookeville, our community characteristics, changes that you’ve seen within the last ten years, neighborhood design aspects you find desirable,” Ward said. “How do you feel about housing options, housing cost? Just a variety of different questions we’ll be putting out for public survey.”

Two different surveys will be part of the process, beginning with a random survey sent to Cookeville Utility customers. Ward said the second survey will allow anyone to share input.

“Now that we have our census numbers, we have some questions that we were wanting to have answered about how the City of Cookeville is doing,” Ward said. “This is a good opportunity for citizens to respond and really help to inform the updated plans for long term development.”

Ward asked Planning Commission members this week to share feedback on questions they might like to have answered.

He said the resident feedback is an important component as the community updates its long-term plan during the remainder of this year.

“It’s a guide for the future of development,” Ward said. “So where does growth occur and what kinds of growth go where? That’s the big questions to be answered with the plan update.”

Ward said he hopes to get the survey rolling in the next several weeks.
