City of Cookeville has officially sold the property located at 545 Woodmont Circle in an online auction for $210,100.
The city had struggled for months to sell the property through regular real estate listing. Water Quality Control Director Barry Turner said the city originally bought the house after it had issues with water and sewer lines.
“We didn’t have any reserve on the price so whatever it brought we would talk,” Turner said. “So we just have to do the paperwork now and get it closed out.”
Turner said there were several bids, though the city would have liked to see more. The city originally set the asking price for the property at $280,000, but received no offers.
Turner said the sale will close within 30 days. He said the city will sign the deed over, get the money, and be relieved of any responsibility for the property.
