Algood To Host First Algood Business Association Meeting

Algood Mayor invites local businesses to the inaugural meeting of Algood Business Association.

Mayor Lisa Chapman-Fowler said the city would like to work with the association to develop plans that draw people into the business district. She said there are restaurants, a coffee shop and a couple of new businesses in that part of town.

“People think Algood stops right there at the red light at Main Street and Cooper Avenue,” Chapman-Fowler said. “And it doesn’t. So we would like anyone visiting our way to come on downtown.”

Chapman-Fowler said everyone wants growth but you have to do it in an orderly manner. She said the city especially wants to foster growth in the downtown district but they want to do it the right way.

Chapman-Fowler said that the Algood Business Association will be a resource for new business investors who are interested in the town. She said future businesses will be able to reach out and ask about sanitation, water service, and other general questions.

“We just recently had a business come in from Chico, California… And the association will be doing us a wonderful service by being able to speak to interested businesses and giving them the inside story.”

Mayor Chapman-Fowler said the goal of the inaugural meeting is for business owners to meet each other and learn about Algood businesses.

“It’s possible that with the Algood Business Association, that they may be able to as a group separate from the city itself, that they may be able to apply for grants on our behalf,” Chapman-Fowler said.
Chapman-Fowler said Jeremy Whitsun of Whitsun Excavating had taken the lead on this effort.

“He’ll be in the know as to what’s coming Algood’s way,” Chapman-Fowler said. “And how we can incorporate that into a business setting or help them.”

The Algood Business Association will meet at City Hall on June 22 at 5 p.m.
