Nick Dunn Sworn In As New Sparta Police Chief

Nick Dunn was officially sworn in as Sparta’s new Police Chief at Thursday night’s aldermen meeting.

Dunn had previously served as Assistant Chief and replaces Chief Doug Goff upon his retirement. Dunn said he has served with the force since 2013.

“I feel pretty good about it,” Dunn said. “I’m excited to implement some new stuff and carry on Doug’s legacy. We’ll just carry on, and carry on for the citizens of Sparta.”

Dunn said he hopes to build upon what the department already has and make it even better. However, he said filling Goff’s shoes will be a big undertaking.

Dunn is joined by Brent Copeland who was sworn in as the Assistant Chief. Outgoing Chief Doug Goff said it has been a privilege to serve the citizens and the city of Sparta.

“I appreciate so much the opportunity to serve and your confidence in me,” Goff said.”I don’t know where I could have went to find any more capable officers taking my place than Chief Dunn and Assistant Chief Copeland. So I think you’re in great hands, and I just want to say thank you.”

In other business, the board also approved the solicitation of bids for striping materials for the city’s recently completed paving jobs. It also approved the purchase for various sized wood poles for the electric department.
