Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will host an ALICE Instructor Training this month to provide skillsets for active shooter or aggressor situations.
ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. Sheriff Eddie Farris said the training will go over how to get individuals certified to teach ALICE courses, including going through the program themselves.
“The process and how to identify those things and how to break them down and deal with that problem in a timely manner to keep everyone safe,” Farris said. “So it is a very good training, and it’s something that we teach quite often.”
Farris said they teach the program in schools, businesses, churches, and many different organizations. He said ALICE is a program utilized worldwide. Farris said that way, in any emergency situation, those who have undergone the training will have the same skillsets and know how to properly address the emergency.
Farris said the program is very popular, and they still have some spots open. He said the more people are certified to teach ALICE courses, the more opportunities there will be to have training courses.
“We certainly can go out and teach active shooter training, but ALICE gives everyone a platform that we’re all tracking the same,” Farris said. “So, certainly helps when we have an emergency in a timely manner to know what we’re talking about and how to deal with it.”
The course will be June 21st and 22nd from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Avery Trace Middle School.
