Highland Rim Academy Working To Establish Campus Off England Drive

A Cookeville Board of Zoning Appeals approval puts Highland Rim Academy one step closer to establish a campus of its own.

The BZA approved a variance allowing for a secure front vestibule at the building off of England Drive.

Director of Advancement Casey Overstreet said the K-12 school was founded in 2007 and now has about 200 students. She said they have been leasing a portion of the building from Washington Avenue Baptist Church for the last 10 years.

“But we are busting at the seams, we have had record growth for the past several years,” Overstreet said. “We’ve been super creative, but it is definitely time for us to expand and have a home of our own.”

Overstreet said the desire to create a school campus has been several years in the making. She said they were only just able to purchase a building that they will renovate to create that future campus.

Overstreet said they are still in the beginning stages of making the new campus a reality. She said they are working with architects to make sure they are making a school that is most conducive for the future and growth of the school. She crews will need to do some demolition work on the current structure before the buildout of the school can begin.

“Our projected move-in date is fall 2024, Lord willing, so we’re just doing everything we need to do now, those due diligence steps, to make that goal a reality,” Overstreet said.

Overstreet said they are excited to take the next steps for a new level of growth at Highland Rim Academy.
