Transfer Flow’s new 35,000 sq ft facility in Algood aims to begin manufacturing by the end of October.
Transfer Flow manufactures American-made aftermarket and OEM fuel tank systems used by drivers who travel long distances or who want to refuel other vehicles.
President Warren Johnson said the main operation will remain on the west coast. But they are preparing to hire some 10 people for the expansion.
“Everyone in the town from the city officials to the mayor of Algood, they’ve been so welcoming to us,” Johnson said. “And we’re so excited to have expansion of our company in the Algood area.”
Johnson said they provide larger replacement tanks that fit underneath the vehicle, fuel tanks that fit in the bed of trucks, and refueling tanks that are purposed to refuel other vehicles out in the field, and tool box/fuel tank combos.
“We’re hoping to introduce some light manufacturing at the Algood facility by this fall,” Johnson said. “Very excited by that. So we’ll keep our main operation in Chico, California. But where we look to expand is our Algood location.”
Johnson said three employees from the Chico headquarters had relocated to Algood for the recent opening. He estimates they will hire around 10 employees to begin manufacturing.
“Right now we’re in the process of pulling in resumes and promoting on social media,” Johnson said.
Johnson said when Transfer Flow originally started looking at Tennessee locations, they were focused on something closer to Nashville. He said a realtor redirected their focus towards Cookeville and the surrounding area.
“It actually reminds us a lot of our hometown in Chico, California,” Johnson said. “We’re based up here in Northern California. Little agricultural area. It’s a college town just like Cookeville. So a lot of similarities between the two towns that we now call home.”
