Crossville Exploring Relocation Of Fire Station To Interstate Drive

Crossville’s Fire Department exploring the relocation of one of its stations to Interstate Drive.

Chief Chris South said in a work session Wednesday that the proposed new location is a prime area for the department. He said the new station would be in an industrial area the department receives a high number of calls.

“This is on the main thoroughfare that’s going to go east to west for us,” South said. “We’re down the street from some of our biggest industries, closer to the industries even on 127 and Interstate 40.”

South said when the department first wanted to relocate several years ago, this area of land was one they wanted, but at that time was not yet up for sale.

Some council members were concerned about a natural gas well on the property and the danger it could present. South said they could cap the well, but that it could also be used for training exercises.

“Everything that we will do in fire training from here out, its natural gas-fed fires,” South said. “We burn very little real materials anymore, just because of the requirements, and we can control natural gas fires much safer for our firefighters in trainers, so it could be very beneficial.”

The property is currently being sold by Cotton Patch Properties Inc. The property is valued at $300,000.
South said after station 2 is relocated, there is a future plan to have a third station opened.
