Fentress County’s UT Extension offices making the move to its new agricultural pavilion.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said they should be completely moved in within the next few days. He said this will allow the office to expand its offerings in a facility better suited to large gatherings and specialized 4H classes.
“This building where we’re up here now, we’ve been working out of it for probably 40 years so it’s just going to be a new venture,” Johnson said. “It’s on a great location, it’s on the bypass about three or four miles out of town but it’s where a lot of traffic can see it. It’ll be easier to get into and out.”
Johnson said the center itself is about 95 percent complete. He said there are still a few odds and ends such as hook ups for utility accessories in the kitchen areas.
Johnson said they had originally hoped to open the pavilion sooner than it is now. He said COVID supply chains are responsible for a majority of the delay.
“We had a lot of deals with metals, roofing, just getting part, waiting on some regulators and such,” Johnson said. “But we can go ahead and be getting started and getting open.”
Johnson said the new center will be a huge asset to the county, especially in terms of bringing folks out of the county for events like cattle sales.
