Friends of White Plains’ Board of Directors is renovating their historic home and updating their marketing materials to increase community connection.

The historic home owned by the Friends group is set to receive a variety of renovations in the near future to improve the visiting experience for people. Board member Judy Roberson said the home has already received some minor repairs, some are still ongoing.

“We want to preserve the history of this home and this area; this is where the first county court was held,” Roberson said. “And if they would tell their friends about it and come visit us, we would love to have visitors there when we’re open.”

Roberson said she thinks the future renovations will be a long-term project, including painting some of the exterior, refurnishing rooms, and building a log building by the side. These continue from the repairs they have made to roofing and wallpaper in the past.

Roberson said the FOWP Board has been working to maximize its marketing outreach. They have been working on digital memberships and payment methods, QR codes linked to their information, and new marketing packages coordinated with the FOWP color scheme.

“We’ve tried to make people in the area aware of the home, and we have had a website in the past, but we’re hoping that we’ll get interest from other areas and other counties,” Roberson said.

Roberson said events like the quilt show and the Fall Fun Fest are great ways to engage with the community, and the FOWP will try to have their new materials available for them.

As for what the community can do to help, Roberson said people can spread the word about the home, make monetary contributions when they visit, and volunteer if they feel inclined to pitch in directly.
