Livingston applying for a TDEC industrial development grant for 14.4-acre plot of land to be converted into a park.
After failing to receive a grant from the TVA in April, Livingston is now applying for a grant through TDEC to work on the last remaining spot in their industrial park. Consultant Ray Evans said the program would be the perfect fit for them, and it would be fairly easy to apply the funds to the work.
“That program has been around for several years and it’s a really good program that allows cities and counties to prepare industrial sites for industrial prospects,” Evans said.
Evans said there is potential in this grant to not only do site work and grading but also to build a spectacular industrial building. He said this would help the city and county move up a notch and attract a successful industrial partner.
Evans said the plot they are working on only became eligible for the program after the specifications were changed this year. He said the opportunity is also very alluring because they are able to receive a 90 percent grant due to their county’s economic ranking.
“I think the application process will begin this fall and then it begins the process of the Department of Economics and Community Development going through all the applications and seeing, with the available resources they have, which projects are the most worthy to fund,” Evans said.
