Overton Schools Working To Tackle More Extensive Projects On Needs Assessment List

Overton County Schools beginning to work through its list of projects after conducting a needs assessment of all the schools last year.

Director of Schools Donnie Holman said at this time, they are focusing on some of the larger issues at Allons Elementary School and Livingston Middle School. He said at Allons Elementary, they are days away from having a completely new roof.

“We are going to be doing a similar thing at Livingston Middle School that we just finished at Allons,” Holman said. “And that is a new roof and replacing numerous HVAC units. And those have all been approved and we’re waiting on a contractor to begin.”

Holman said they are excited to address those projects because those are some of the pricier and more extensive needs.

Holman said they are also doing some minor projects at all of the schools. He said that includes general maintenance like cleans ups and refreshing paint jobs around the campuses.

“Some concrete things, adding an additional small piece of sidewalk here or there, there are numerous small things,” Holman said. “I know in particular we’ve had lots of major improvements at A.H. Roberts in painting with the halls have all been improved and painted (…) I’ll give a little shout-out to the principal at A.H. Roberts. He was out painting the sign himself, the A.H. Roberts sign. So I appreciate that much interest and desire to make the school better when the principal’s actually working at that themselves.”

“I was a principal for many years and that’s not uncommon, but it is so, so appreciated. Our new principal there, James Cox, I’d just like to give him a shout-out.”

Holman said they are also working on improving a lesser-used staircase at Rickman Elementary School. He said they are working to put additional support in it to make sure it is more secure.

Holman said maintenance crews have been busy and have done a good job.
