Cookeville Public Works set to receive two new trucks to better conduct projects such as drainage jobs and material handling.
Director Blake Mayo said the department has been relying on the Water Department to borrow a mini-excavator when needed. He said the truck allows the department to get into smaller spaces while still having the capabilities to perform projects.
“And it also got some more capabilities than the backhoe as far as being able to turn the unit complete;y around to load trucks so that’s what we’re going to be using that one for,” Mayo said. “And we’re also getting a 299 skid steer, and that’s going to be replacing a 2011 Bobcat that we’ve got now.”
The mini-excavator comes in at around $150,000 and the skid steer truck will be purchased for some $98,000. Mayo said both items are budgeted.
Mayo said the mini-excavator is already on the ground in La Vergne, Tennessee, and should be ready for implementation shortly. He said that the skid steer truck has a planned delivery in late August or early September.
“We were surprised that we were getting the trackhoe that soon, but it’s actually on the ground and it’s just about ready to go so we’re happy about that,” Mayo said.
Both trucks come from Thompson Machinery.
