PCSS Showing Enthusiastic Return To School For First Full Day

A successful first day as Putnam County students spent the first full day of the year in class Tuesday.

Communications Supervisor Buddy Pearson said from a logistical standpoint, everything has gone smoothly including bus routes and in-school business. He said it bodes well to have a successful first day as it can set the tone for the remainder of the year.

“I play golf and it’s like how that first tee shot goes is how your day is going to go,” Pearson said. “So I think that first day of school, with how everything has gone so far, you hope that’s indicative of how the rest of the year is going to go. But I just think that the teachers, the students, the administrators, everybody is, I think they’re ready.”

Pearson said there has been excitement among the administration, teachers, and students that has not been seen in a while. He said schools reported an unexpectedly large turnout at the back-to-school bashes, indicating families’ enthusiasm about the return to school.

Pearson said another thing that contributed to the new year’s success was the introduction of online forms. He said parents had accessibility and ease with back-to-school forms they had not had before, setting them up for success.

“They could log on, they could register their child, or if they knew that they weren’t going to be there on Friday they could go ahead and register the paperwork so I think that was one thing that helped with enthusiasm and just getting parents and students ready was being able to have those papers already filled out,” Pearson said. “Knowing who their teachers are, what the classes were going to look like, and that kind of thing.”
