Sen. Bailey Recognized As Putnam County Friend Of The Fair At Luncheon

Senator Paul Bailey awarded Putnam County Friend of the Fair Thursday , only the second time the award has been given.

Fair Board President John Allen said the award began 14 years ago. He said Bailey aids the fair every single year by providing the large trailer that keeps the fair’s $25,000 worth of beverages cool.

“That’s certainly an honor,” Bailey said. “The Putnam County Fair is such a community-oriented program that’s been going on for years and years and years. And because we are such an agricultural-based area, it means just the world to me that they’ve recognized me.”

Bailey said it is important to support the fair because of its roots in the county’s agricultural industry. He said the fair started out as a place where farmers would go and show off the crops they had grown through their hard work. Bailey said the fair was also a place for machinery companies to help farmers of the area learn about new and emerging technology.

Bailey said the fair was significant to the agricultural world in Putnam County when it started and that tradition continues to this day. He said that’s why he is proud to support and do what he can to help the fair be successful each year.

Bailey was recognized at the Fair’s kick-off luncheon Thursday.
