Tennessee Tech Bringing Decorating Days Back This Year

Tennessee Tech will bring back Decorating Days Competition this year.

Director of Marketing Promotions and Events Shanna Muncy said students, faculty, staff, community members and local businesses will participate in five competitions spread across the city.

“This was a lot of fun on campus but we’re also expanding it this year,” Muncy said. “The three campus competitions will work with our academic offices, administrative offices, and residential halls.  Off campus we’re doing an alumni competition as well as a Golden Eagle Perks Slogan competition.”

Muncy said Decorating Days is part of Spirit Days which runs through August 25. She said the annual events provide fun and friendly competition to kick off the fall term.

In conjunction with these festivities, the Golden Eagle Perks Program has been re-branded to focus on perks provided by local businesses. Muncy said welcome week provides the perfect opportunity for the annual Connect with Cookeville event which is very popular with students. She said students get to meet local business representatives and many of those businesses  offer free samples and giveaways.

Muncy said only businesses who are Golden Eagle Perks Partners are invited to participate in the annual Connect with Cookeville event.

“Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland area is so welcoming to our students and their families,” Muncy said. “It is just a wonderful place to be here at Tennessee Tech and Cookeville

Muncy said in addition to the giveaways at Connect with Cookeville, the Perks Program allows businesses to provide discounts to Tech faculty, staff, and students. She said perks partners offer discounts on just about anything including restaurants, salons, and so much more in the community.

Muncy said outside of the program students often  go to local establishments and interact with patrons and staff making friends.

“They go and everyone knows their names,” Muncy said. “Our community is so supportive of the students.”
