Jackson County High School’s New Principal Wants To Foster Success And Support For Students

Jackson County High School Principal Andrea Thaxton said she took on the role because she saw a need in the county.

Thaxton takes over from Jason Hardy, who was recently named the new Director of Schools. She said her main goal will be to create a culture where students and faculty can thrive.

“Making sure that we have those relationships set in place that our kids are valued, their education is important,” Thaxton said. “I live here in the county and I want to see every one of our kids in our county do well.”

Thaxton said she originally fell into teaching several years ago when she decided to move back home with her family. She said she has experience as an English teacher, an RTI coordinator, and an instructional coach.

Thaxton said she wants her students to have tools for lifelong success, and that includes having support and care from inside the school system. She said that kind of love was instrumental in her adulthood, and she wants to provide the same for her students now.

“I jokingly say I’m living on a prayer but I feel that, I can’t do this without God leading me in all of my walks and just trying to do what’s best for our community,” Thaxton said. “And this point I don’t know what that is exactly, but I know He will lead me in the direction I need to go.”
