Algood City Council Approves New Training Simulator For Police Department

Algood City Council approved Police Chief Dale Armour’s request to purchase a $45,783 RECON training simulator from Ti Training Outdoors.

The training simulator will be purchased using federal funds already budgeted for the Algood Police Department this year under their GSA contract. Armour said the simulator is fully customizable, allowing the training sergeant to change scenarios, attackers, victims, and much more.

“I want my officers to make the very best decisions they can on the street when they’re faced with something that’s out of the norm,” Armour said. “Luckily we don’t have a lot of violent crime here that the officers respond to, but when they respond to it I need them to have a level of, number one, confidence, and number two, a level of experience; and this is what this does.”

Armour said the simulator will update every six months to provide fresh training programs and allow for potential retraining. He also said that the Aglood Police Department will be sharing this simulator with all of the Upper Cumberland forces, it’s for everyone.

In other news, the council approved Armour’s request to purchase 18 new service pistols for the Algood Police Department. Armour said the old service weapons still function properly, but their sight technology is outdated. He said the new ones come improved better red-dot sight technology.

“Historically, what I’m understanding from instructors, is that people that use these types of red-dot sights see their scores raise up well,” Armour said. “So you’re putting a more accurate officer on the street if he has to use a weapon.”

Armour also said the old weapons could be auctioned off to make good returns. The city council approved his request to allocate the surplus gained from the auction back into the Algood Police Department Drug Fund–which is what funded the original purchase of the weapons.
