Parkview Elementary School Pre-K Receiving A Parking Pad For Student Drop-Off

Parkview Elementary School will have a new parking pad for Pre-K student drop-off by fall break.

Principal Melody Presley said she had heard from teachers and supervisors that Pre-K parents did not have access to classrooms during morning drop-off or when delivering fresh clothing.

Presley said she was able to fast-track a new concrete area, first speaking with the school’s maintenance worker about her idea. She said he agreed it was a good idea and from there she submitted photos and a description of her plans to district level maintenance.

“They’re coming in, their putting their little backpacks on their hooks,” Presley said. “And they’re getting started with their morning work and then at eight o’clock the teacher’s done with signing everyone in. Whereas before they were checking in in the gym in the front of the school and walking all the way back. You’re losing 10 minutes of time.”

Presley said the Pre-K classes are at the back of the building and the children previously had to check-in at the gym and then travel through the big kids area to get to Pre-K.

She said because she had school adopter Dillon’s Concrete willing to provide the work as a charitable project, she had the green light to move forward.  She said there was already a sidewalk and stairs that could lead up to the area where the pad will be placed next to the classrooms.

“I’ve met with my maintenance man this morning,” Presley said. “He’s already had people over here looking at the area to determine how it will progress. Do we have to level out the ground. What do we have to do to make it a nice area for parents to pull to the side and walk their kids safely into school.”

Presley said even just beginning the project had been a positive experience for children. She said their day started in a calmer and more organized manner and they were enjoying learning a little bit about construction watching the work going on.

“It’s definitely more efficient for the students and the teachers,” Presley said. “They love it,  the teachers love it.”
