Kids can participate in a bike ride Saturday designed to promote exercise and life-savings skills.

The Cookeville Regional Charitable Foundation hosting the event in partnership with Carmen’s Fund, which promotes free CPR education. Director John Bell said the community kids bike ride event takes place Saturday in Algood.

“We want our families of course to be prepared and to feel safe in their environments,” Bell said. “So we’re going over some bike safety tips for kids and for adults and we’re going over some free, call it friends and family track CPR training throughout the day.”

The event will also include free games, giveaways, a safety booth, an inflatable obstacle course, and a one-mile bike ride each hour. Bell said that free music will also be provided throughout the day and that prizes will be available to children who complete training.

Bell said that the first 300 children to arrive at the park would receive a pass for free food, games, and further safety training. Bell said children’s event passes include a free hotdog lunch, ice cream, juice, water and shaved ice tastings.

“We’ve been talking for several years about doing something to engage children in safety, not only in CPR but also in bike safety,” Bell said. “We’ve been involved with a group that dealt with experienced bikers of the Ride To The Sky, and we decided to ship stuff this year and that event went to the Rail Trail Authority and we’re focused on kids and kid safety.”
