Clean Commission’s Putnam Proud Event Lasts Until Saturday

The Clean Commission’s Putnam Proud Event is in full swing as the organization encourages the community to schedule clean ups.

The event continues through Saturday. In addition to picking up trash, the Clean Commission encourages people to donate and participate in other activities that help the environment. Executive Director Teresa Jackson said the annual event is all about cleaning up the county,

“Nobody likes trash,” Jackson said. “Trash is not glamorous, so we target a week in the fall. A, it’s not so hot, we are getting close to the holidays, so we pick this time of year to do our annual event.”

Jackson said the event has been successful in the past by getting contributions from businesses and individuals coming out to clean up. To officially get involved with the Putnam Proud Event email or call the Putnam County Clean Commission.

“If you are just driving down the street and look at the side of the road, all of the litter that’s out there,” Jackson said. “By bringing more awareness, to have people paying attention, just during this week alone, has been very successful.”

Jackson said she even encourages businesses and individuals to get outside and pick up the trash around their buildings or homes.

“We just want to encourage the whole entire community of Putnam County, including Monterey and Baxter, to take pride in where we live and to keep it beautiful,” Jackson said.

Jackson said the Clean Commission has been involved with Putnam County since the 1980s, and the Putnam Proud event has been held for several years straight. The Clean Commission also offers classes to help learn how to recycle and compost.
