Appalachian Center For Crafts Hosting Resident Artist Talk Wednesday

Tennessee Tech’s Appalachian Center For Crafts will give you the chance to better understand the artistic process Wednesday night.

The Resident Artist Talk allow the center’s six resident artists to meet with visitors to describe both their artistic and creative process. Appalachian Center Program Manager Ashley Lusietto said the evening even provides staff the opportunity to take a moment to gaze at the art themselves.

“I’m really excited, even though I work closely with the resident artists, I don’t know a lot about some of their work and processes,” Lusietto said. “So, I’m really excited to get a chance to hear from them directly about what they make and what their goals are with their residency.”

Lusietto said arts utilize methods involving clay, textiles, glass, tool making, metal smithing, oil painting, and graphite. The event is free and open to the public from 5pm-6:30pm.

“The artists are looking forward to this event,” Lusietto said. “It’s an opportunity for them to meet folks in the community. As you know we are out here 30 minutes away from Tennessee Tech and Cookeville, and some of our artists don’t have transportation to Cookeville, so this is a way for folks to come here and meet them.”

Lusietto said that the event also provides students an opportunity to hear a different side of the artists they may see often.

“Students work with resident artists here, but this is an opportunity for them to hear from them about their studio practice,” Lusietto said. “And think it’s a way for them to see something they could potentially do in the future themselves.”

Lusietto said the event also allows those currently not taking classes at the Appalachian Center to get a taste of what it provides. Lusietto said that the Appalachian Center For Crafts hosts several events a year, with more upcoming in November and over the holidays.
