Clay Commissioners Will Join With Celina On Veterans Memorial

The Clay County Board of Commissioners voted 6-4 Monday night to allocate $40,000 to the construction of a veterans memorial for county veterans.

Celina has been planning such a memorial for the last year or so, but the memorial would only have included veterans who lived inside the city limits. District Three Commissioner Winton Young said he wanted to be fair and remember all those who served.

“I just feel like that we should have all our veterans, not just a few,” Young said. “That’s how I feel personally, I don’t know how the court feels, but I would like them all to be recognized, all veterans, not just the ones in the city limits.”

In other business, Liz Post was sworn-in to fill a empty seat in District Five. The Board voted to approve her for the position unanimously.
