Overtone’s Anti-Drug Coalition Is Accepting Applicants For Paid Internship

The Overton Anti-Drug Coalition is currently accepting high-school and college-age applicants for a paid internship.

Assistant Director Ashley Allen said the position will require a 20-hour work week with some travel included. Allen said the position also requires assistance on weekend events such as the upcoming Drug Take Back event. Allen said the intern will lead the youth coalition in day-to-day activities.

“It’s kind of great having students,” Allen said. “Because just if you have a high school student, they’re going to be able to get those students more amped up about participating.”

Allen said that applicants are required to send a paragraph as to why they want the position and one reference. Applicants can contact the office for more information.

“Everybody’s got their own responsibilities that they fulfill,” Allen said. “So with our intern, since they’re not directed towards one specific grant, they’ll be covering all of the grants that we get so that would be all substances. So there’s really no way to prepare, it’s just as needed what we need done.”

Allen said the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services provided the funding for the position.

“Our program manager and the state said that we could hire a college or high school intern,” Allen said. “Which, we hadn’t really thought of yet so it was a great idea and we’re really, really glad that we get to do it.”

Allen said the intern would coordinate, implement, and track all tobacco, marijuana, and any other drug prevention programs and strategies.
