Cumberland County has begun the process of searching for a new finance director.
Nathan Brock served 35 years before announcing his retirement. Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster said the job has been posted in multiple places. Foster said Brock’s service has been outstanding for the county.
“It’s one of the key jobs here, we have a lot of very important jobs and this if one of them,” Foster said. “Finance Director is what keeps us legal and compliant with the state of Tennessee. We’re under the financial management act of 1981, which is a great act that helps us to unify our financial services here. They’re a survey to all of us in the county.”
Foster said Brock’s work kept the county audit free for two consecutive years. Foster said that the feat is almost unheard of. Foster said he hopes to hire a new finance director by the end of the year.
“He’s excellent,” Foster said. “He’s the controller, he has to keep us in line sometimes wanting to do things we’re not allowed to and don’t know it. But he knows all those laws and he’s been great to keep us within the rules and the guidelines.”
Foster said that county staff are sad to see Brock leave office after his service, though they are excited for him as well.
“He just said it’s time,” Foster said. “He gave a lot of great service to the county, he actually thanked the taxpayer at the last commission meeting for supporting him and giving him a good job and allowing him to serve the people of Cumberland.”
Foster said once applications are received, the county will take several weeks to consider the applicants.
