Cookeville City Council reappointed Dr. Charles Womack as a city appointee to the Tennessee Central Rail Trail Authority Thursday.
Womack will serve a full three-year term. The council appointed Womack in 2022 to fill an empty seat on the authority. The city joined with the city of Algood and Putnam County to recently change the authority’s by-laws to allow an increased number of terms.
In other business, Council approved a bid to replace the CPAC boiler, which heats the auditorium and upstairs dressings room. Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the boiler is failing. Woods said the boilers limped through last winter.
Boilers from Cookeville City Hall that were removed several years ago can be used for CPAC. A Ringgold, Georgia firm bid on the work to replace the boilers, which came in below the budgeted amount.
Police will replace ten in-car communication terminals, a budgeted expense. Chief Randy Evans said the department changes out roughly 20 percent of its in-car units. The department will change to Dell units after a performance evaluation.
Council also approved a $10,000 grant which will be used toward equipment and training in preventing internet crimes against children.
