Cookeville CityScape’s two new Christmas ornaments will feature Borden’s Jewelry and The Tennessee Central Rail Trail.

Executive Director Ferran Kefauver said that each year, the CityScape Board of Directors chooses a local downtown landmark to make the focus of the ornaments. Borden’s Jewelry has been a part of the Cookeville community for 123 years and will have its storefront featured on one ornament. A red train engine will represent the Tennessee Central Rail Trail

“I think it just shows how strong we are as a community unit and how much support we show for one another,” Kefauver said. “When you go to other communities, I don’t think that you see the kind of unity that you see here in Cookeville and everybody is just so kind and wants to rally around and support one another at a really high level.”

The ornaments will be available for purchase from a number of storefronts around Cookeville starting Friday.

“I think it just brings an appreciation,” Kefauver said. “I know Cookeville is aware that Borden’s is there and they support them but it just brings this new appreciation for how wonderful it’s been and I think they feel really special and feel really chosen and supported by the community when their business is chosen as the ornament of the year.”

CityScape chooses the business and landmark that will be featured with the ornament of the year by choosing from a running list of local businesses and organizations. Kefauver said during the summer, the board votes, and a street-level photo is taken of the business. Beacon Designs collaborates with CityScape to design and produce the final product. Kefauver said that some ornaments from past years are in stock as well.

“Coming into my job every day during this season and being able to sell these ornaments, gosh, it’s the best feeling,” Kefauver said. “I kind of feel like I’m in a Hallmark movie. We are so thrilled to be able to highlight businesses and organizations and landmarks.”
