Cookeville Police Department Warn Of Active Phone Scam

The Cookeville Police Department will not call you and demand money or threaten you with arrest if you refuse to pay.

The department is asking all residents to keep this in mind, as they have several reports of a scam caller doing just that. The caller is using the name of an actual police department employee.

Police said this is a common tactic for scammers known as vishing or voice phishing. A scammer will call pretending to be a figure of authority and demand you send them money or give them your personal information.

The Cookeville Police Department warns residents to stay vigilant and protect your money and information against these scams.
