A Cookeville couple is holding a concert Saturday to raise funds for their adoption of a child from Haiti.
Paige White said the event was inspired by the musicians and music lovers in her life. White said she feels God called her and her husband to pursue the adoption.
“There are going to be ups and downs in this and we know that,” White said. “And we’re, I wouldn’t say we’ll be fully prepared, but we’re ready, I guess, for what the future holds in this process.”
White said the couple started the adoption process in May. She said it takes three to five years to complete. The event is set for Saturday night at 6pm at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Jake Hoot, Diana Dockery, and the Shirah Brothers will perform.
White said she was told Haiti is one of the hardest countries to adopt from.
“You’ve got to get pretty much your whole life together to send off to another country in this document for them to make sure that, you know, your family is legit and it’s safe to adopt these children.”
White said she does not doubt their plans, but does feel overwhelmed by the process at times.
“When you get this calling from God, there’s no way that I feel like I can say no that that, you know?” White said. “But there are definitely times that it’s a lot.”
White said her appreciation for adoption started as a child with her family’s work at Cookeville’s Mustard Seed Ranch, a Christian ministry designed to take children out of unsafe environments and into loving homes.
